Identifying a comprehensive pipeline development strategy to enable a leading RE producer successfully bid and execute projects to enhance its portfolio and consolidate its market position
Context
- Client description: A leading renewable energy player in India having a diverse portfolio of solar and wind energy plants
- Opportunity: The client wanted to develop a pipeline development strategy to establish its growth targets and understand the kind of renewable energy projects it should target in different regions, as well as expedite its project portfolio growth
Our Approach
- Identified the current installed capacity of solar and wind energy plants in India. We also assessed the growth potential of installed capacity of RE plants and estimated the % of the total growth that can be catered to by the client, by considering its operational capabilities and expected investment by PE funds
- Prepared a detailed project assessment framework and the necessary analytical tools to evaluate new projects at different stages of development
- Developed an operating model to source new projects, evaluate, discuss the pipeline with management regularly and assess investments across the portfolio
- Created a project economics assessment toolkit along with the process and implementation of regular pipeline reviews
- Assessed the expected change in per-unit rate for energy produced in future PPAs and created a dynamic unit economics model to ascertain the effect on the profitability of RE power plants to be developed in future
