We analyzed the average spend on diagnostic tests across key specializations like paediatrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics, diabetology, cardiology etc. to estimate the overall diagnostic spend. We also estimated the spend per doctor to distinguish diagnostic heavy specializations like diabetology and cardiology from otherwise large base General Practitioner (GP) diagnostics. Specialist diagnostic tests comprise ~18% of overall specialists market size in India

Context

  • Client Description: A leading EMR (Electronic Medical Records) player
  • Opportunity: The client <remove unnecessary space> wanted to increase its footprint in the EMR space for specialist doctors (pediatricians, gynecologists, cardiologists, orthopedics etc.) in India. It was hence required to estimate the overall EMR market size for specialists with a special focus on diagnostics spends across specialization

Our Approach

  • Conducted more than 55 interviews with specialist doctors across standalone GPs, diabetologists, pediatricians, gynecologists, multiple GP clinics, cardiology, orthopedics, general medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, dermatology, nephrology, ophthalmology, pulmonology, and psychiatry
  • Estimated user base (across chronic and non-chronic users) of diagnostics services across all specializations
  • Enlisted diagnostics tests required for each specialization ailments (for instance diabetes for diabetologists) and the estimated annual cost incurred for each by both categories of the user base (chronic & non-chronic)
