Flipkart Group bagged 60% market share in Diwali festival sales: Report

Ecommerce major Flipkart Group, including its fashion portal Myntra, cornered an around 60% market share in this year’s Diwali festive sales, according to data collected by business research and market intelligence firm PGA Labs.

Amazon India had a 32% share of the total gross sales (GMV) during the festive month in which ecommerce companies together posted around $9.2 billion in GMV, 11% higher than last year.

GMV (gross merchandise value) in ecommerce means the total value of goods sold on a platform during a certain period of time, including the discounts but excluding the returns.

While Amazon India and Walmart-owned Flipkart dominate the India market and compete intensely against each other, the gap between the two during the festive month, as per the PGA Labs data, is noteworthy. The data showed the overall gap between Flipkart Group and Amazon India is thinner when the annual GMV is considered. ET spoke to industry experts aware of ecommerce volumes and they corroborated the festive month GMV share data of Flipkart and Amazon India
